Welcome Friends

After suffering a heart attack in 2007, it became clear that I had to make some lifestyle adjustments. We were already owners of a rustic cabin in upstate New York. Once we established that my retirement from my job as Secretary to the Chief of Police on Long Island would be a huge financial burden we decided that moving permanently to our unfinished cabin would be the best way to make the necessary changes for my health. After securing "permission" from our youngest daughter, who at 13 would be making the move with us, we made the move in June of 2008. Our four oldest children still reside on Long Island, along with our families and old friends. It has been a tremendous journey, both physically and emotionally, but we've done it! This is the story of our journey, and our ongoing experiences as middle aged lovers of life. We are truly all in this together! Jennifer

Why I write this blog

Because I love to write-plain and simple. Some days I feel what I have to say is important and relevant. Other days, I have trouble writing my name. It is a life of ups and downs, and I hope to write enough that we can someday look back at what was going on, and remember the feelings that were so important at the time. If you are reading this blog, I hope you find it relevant. Or not. But it does matter to me.

Memorable Senior Moments

  • Today I drove to town for the purpose of picking up a fresh vegetable for dinner. I came home with seeds for the garden, half off chocolate easter eggs, wrapping paper and bows, tape, sponges, garden nippers, bath salts, doilies and facial cream, exfolient and baby oil. No vegetables.
  • Today I spent a serious amount of time trying to change the channel with the cordless telephone. Scary.
  • Ever bought reading glasses? I did last week, and in church I was looking down and realized that for ONE WHOLE WEEK I had left the strength sticker (2.00) on the glass lens. Ah, senility. What else can we laugh at?
  • Have you ever walked around in public with a pair of sunglasses on and your reading glasses propped on top of your head? And then realized you needed to read something and walked around for twenty minutes or so looking for your reading glasses? And all the time they were on top of your head? Me either.
  • Getting lost in Peebles Parking Lot. Not confused, Lost. I now understand what the "Panic" button is on the car opener. Interesting.
  • Forgetting WHAT I was going to add to this list. It was something. Oh yes! I spent a considerable amount of time looking for my theatre keys, which are on a long loop. I called home, and Jerry asked "Are they on your neck?" Yes. They were.
